Mercy Wambui Kimani
International Tree Foundation - Kenya
I am currently the Kenya Programme Manager, International Tree Foundation. I love and appreciate nature in its original state. Restoration of the degraded forests, empowering communities to improve their livelihoods is my passion.
My work includes coordinating all partners working with ITF on different restoration, agroforestry and gender projects in Kenya. My work has exposed me to different ecosystems. community cultures and beliefs. The opportunities and challenges are equally as diverse. During my interaction with the communities the unique gender perspectives also come to play. The pre-dominant fact being the need to empower more women and get them involved in our work because from experience the project implemented with women tend to thrive more. Women are nurturers of nature and our role as women cannot be wished away.
I am excited to join this women leadership circle to learn and share experiences. I am keen to learn the different approaches and skills to apply especially when dealing with very male dominated communities ensuring I get the men and women harmony desired.
