Meg Caldwell

Meg is the Ocean Director at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. She has been with the Foundation since 2015. Prior to that, Meg was the Environmental and Natural Resources Law and Policy Program Director at Stanford Law School, Senior Lecturer in Law for the Law School and the Woods Institute for the Environment, and Executive Director of Stanford’s Center for Ocean Solutions. Meg’s academic scholarship focuses on the integration of science into ocean and coastal governance, including articles and book chapters on coastal adaptation to sea level rise, ocean acidification, ecosystem-based planning and management, international ocean policy, and coastal land use planning.
In addition to her 20-year academic career, Meg has devoted much of her professional life to public service, including Senior Consultant to the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, member and chair of the California Coastal Commission, member of the California Coastal Conservancy Board, and member of the California Marine Life Protection Act Blue Ribbon Task Force for all four coastal regions.
