Liliane Pari Umuhoza
Program Consultant
Liliane was born and raised in Rwanda, and she currently lives in Vancouver, Canada where she earned a master's degree in public policy and Global Affairs at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She has her BA in Peace and Conflict studies from Juniata College in Pennsylvania, USA. She works as a program consultant for Planet Women, managing the Center for Gender Equity and Environment (CGEE), a project that promotes gender equality in forest landscape restoration and empowers women environmental leaders.
Liliane is also a human rights advocate who uses her life experience and work with nonprofits to promote peace and summon global dialogue and actions against human right abuses. She has spoken at events related to peacebuilding, human rights and women’s empowerment at universities, the United Nations, the Embassy of Rwanda in Washington DC, the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City and Vancouver, and many others. In 2017, Liliane founded Retreat for Women Genocide Survivors Initiative, a program that psychologically and financially supports women survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
Through UBC, Liliane has been involved in a research project that focuses on the intersections of gender, disability, peace, and security in northern Uganda. The project’s purpose is to build community, improve policy, further public awareness, and advocate for greater inclusion of women living with disabilities as a result of the conflict in the region. Liliane believes that we all have the choice and power to make the world a better place for everyone.
