Irene Ojuok
Consultant for Gender Mainstreaming in Environment and Climate Change
Irene Ojuok is an accomplished environmentalist and gender advocate with over 15 years of experience in sustainable land management and climate change initiatives in Africa. She focuses on promoting gender-responsive environmental practices in rural communities, particularly in Kenya, and is a strong supporter of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), a community-driven method for land restoration.
Irene holds a Bachelor's in Environmental Studies and a Master's in Project Planning and Management. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate at the Right Livelihood College (RLC) at the University of Bonn, researching land degradation and FMNR.Her expertise includes project design, capacity building, advocacy, and gender mainstreaming. She co-authored the guide “Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) in Kenya” and conducted a study to enhance women's participation in FMNR in Marsabit County. Recognized for her leadership, she was named a Global Evergreening Ambassador in 2020 and a Tree Ambassador by Total Eco Challenge Kenya in 2016. As a Global FMNR champion, she continues to raise awareness and build capacity for FMNR practices worldwide, ensuring that women are not left behind in environmental restoration efforts.
