Liliane Pari Umuhoza

Program Consultant

Liliane was born and raised in Rwanda, and she currently lives in Canada where she is doing a master’s in Public Policy and Global Affairs at the University of British Columbia. She has her BA in Peace and Conflict studies from Juniata College in Pennsylvania. She works as a program consultant for Planet Women, organizing programs that promote gender equality in forest landscape restoration and empowering women environmental leaders.  

Liliane is also a human rights advocate who uses her life experience and her work with non-profits to promote peace and summon global dialogue and actions against human right abuses. She has spoken at events related to peace-building, human rights and women empowerment at universities, the United Nations, the Embassy of Rwanda in Washington DC, the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City and Vancouver, and many others.

In 2017, Liliane founded “Retreat for Women Genocide Survivors Initiative” a program that psychologically and financially supports women survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Through UBC, Liliane is involved in a research project in Uganda focusing on bringing the experiences, knowledge and wisdom of women and girls with disabilities affected by conflict and displacement in northern Uganda. The goal of the research is to build community, improve policy, further public awareness and to advocate for their greater inclusion in the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
